Scripted Romance

Many years ago I let my husband off the hook—the one where he gets hung up for failing to come through on Valentine’s Day.  I used to have lots of expectations until I began to realize something….his love for me is shown on a daily basis.  So why expect him to do something extravagant one day a year? Now, I’m not knocking those couples who go all out for Valentine’s Day.  Maybe it’s the fact we’ve been married for more than two decades or it could be we have grown too comfortable—who knows? I just know that my husband feels … Continue reading

Happy Valentines Day

It’s that time once again, Single Awareness Day, known to most people as Valentine’s Day. If you are single, you are very aware of this day. Even at work today when I called a client he wished me a Happy Valentine’s Day before we got off the phone. Ahhh, love is in the air. Except at my house, I am happily single but this is still a fun holiday that we can share with our kids. I think it’s important to establish traditions that your children will remember and will give them a sense of home no matter where they … Continue reading

Sweet and Simple Valentine’s Day

Who says Valentine’s Day has to be an elaborate affair? Unless you are being wooed by Donald Trump there’s little chance that your Love Day will include jetting off to a romantic locale, being showered with diamonds and rubies, and dining on a five-course gourmet meal while Luciano Pavarotti serenades you in multiple languages. Heck, most of us will be lucky if we find a crumpled handmade Valentine’s Day card in the bottom of our kid’s backpack. Celebrating February 14th doesn’t have to put a strain on your wallet. Forget about the fancy chocolates, chilled champagne, long-stemmed roses, and massive … Continue reading

The Proof of Love

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!!! Normally my wife and I avoid this holiday like the plague. It is far too sickeningly sweet and filled with faux intentions and proclamations for us to put a great deal of effort into the day itself. This Valentine’s Day, though, we decided to have a good time at home, with each other, and not be too concerned about the hustle and bustle of restaurants, shopping centers, and other items covered in paper red or glossy pink hearts. We realized that we had what I’ll call a “proof of love” built into our day already. What … Continue reading

Use Stamps To Spruce Up Your Scrapbooks

If you’re looking for ideas to spruce up your scrapbooking projects them stamps could be a great place to start. Stamps are a great thing to have on hand. Stamps can take an ordinary piece of paper and turn it into something magical. If you’re just starting to use stamps in your projects here are a few tips for getting the most out of stamping: Buy Generic Stamps: Sure that duck stamp might be cute, but if you can’t use it more than once then it’s going to be pretty useless after a while. Before buying specialty stamps try investing … Continue reading

Love is In the Air

‘Love is the air,’ with TVs, stores, magazines etc all gearing up for Valentine’s Day. Everywhere you turn hearts and flowers dominate the displays. But love is more than just a romantic notion written about by songwriters, poets, novelists and movie script writers. Love can mean different things to different people, but I read a couple of good descriptions of love in a novel I’ve been reading. One was, ‘Allowances must be made for the people we love.’ That’s what Mary Ann was talking about too in her blog about unconditional love. It doesn’t depend on what they do but … Continue reading

A Different Approach to Valentine’s Day

‘Valentine’s Day is every day, or it should be.’ That’s what my darling husband said when I told him the title of my yesterday’s blog. You see, he agrees with me in thinking Valentines Day is overrated. He also believes, as I do, there’s no point making a big fuss over your spouse on that one day of the year if you’re not going to keep it up every day of every year. Okay, so you may not be able to afford gifts every day of the year, (and neither should you have to) but you can still show by … Continue reading

What is the Big Deal about Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. The shops have stacks of cards and heart shaped decorations out. Yet in a recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald the marketing director of Hallmark, Amanda Del Prete, said, ‘We have had some women say if they want to get an anniversary card from their husband, they have to buy it themselves and give it to them. I think a few people have slipped their husbands some Valentine’s cards as well.’ Doesn’t that defeat the purpose? If he can’t be bothered or forgets or isn’t interested in buying a card, then what’s the point? … Continue reading

Are You up for a Dare?

Are you up for a dare – a dare to enliven your marriage? 40 days could change your marriage, if you let it. According to experts it takes anywhere from 20 to 40 days for something to become a habit. So, doing one positive thing for our spouse each day over 40 days to show we love them would become a habit we could incorporate into our marriage. This morning I received a email suggesting this 40 day love challenge in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day. It meant starting on New Years Day. Now obviously it doesn’t have … Continue reading
