Inside the Disney Limbo

After previewing “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” last week, I began wondering about the status of many other upcoming Disney films. While researching the movies Disney’s got on its production line, I discovered many promising titles (and some not so promising) that are currently in a state of limbo. A number of interesting projects are in various stages of halted production over at Disney right now. For today’s blog I thought I’d highlight some of these projects. “Enchanted 2” – All right, I’m cheating some here. The House of Mouse just announced that they plan to make a … Continue reading

Look Who’s Headed Back to School

Your little Johnny is not the only one headed back to class this fall. Imagine being a student at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles and bumping into actor Jerry O’Connell. Your first thought might be that he’s at the school’s orientation because he’s researching a future film role. Wrong. The 35-year-old Hollywood hottie has gone back to school… for real. According to reports, O’Connell is enrolled as a part-time student and started night classes earlier this week. O’Connell, who has been playing Mr. Mom to 8-month-old twin daughters while his actress wife Rebecca Romijn works, revealed that while he … Continue reading

Cash for Gold Mailers

You’ve seen the commercials. Smiling people round up their broken jewelry, pop it into an envelope and then a few days later they receive a wad of cash. “I got $500 for my unwanted and broken jewelry!” a woman exclaims. While turning something unwanted (the jewelry) into something needed (the cash) is a great concept, you have to wonder if it is really worth it. People would naturally be wary of sending gold items in the mail, and the commercials tell you that everything is guaranteed. By law they have to pay you, but they also tell you that if … Continue reading

Howard Stern and American Idol’s LaKisha Jones Wed (but not each other)

It was a big weekend for celebrity weddings. After Scarlett Johannson and Ryan Reynolds’ hush-hush wedding a week ago, Howard Stern and new wife Beth Ostrosky did it up big. The couple married in New York on Friday with such guests as Donald Trump, Kelly Ripa, Jimmy Kimmel, Chevy Chase, Joan Rivers, Barbara Walters, and Billy Joel looking on. Rumor has it that Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos, is an ordained minister and he officiated the ceremony. The couple started planning the big event last December. Romance was the theme with 2000 weeping willows filled with white orchids hanging over the … Continue reading

Save Money on Toaster Pastries

Luxury can sometimes come in little packages. For us, it may be in the form of toaster pastries or “pop-tarts.” Because of the expense of these things (not to mention the sometimes shady nutritional value), we seldom buy them. But toaster pastries, especially if you get the healthier versions, aren’t bad things for snacks or an emergency breakfast once in a while. Back to school seems to be a good time for toaster pastries, as we all adjust back to a hectic lifestyle. Here are some ways that you can save money on toaster pastries. My favorite way to save … Continue reading

Chicago’s Festival Season

My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My favorite summer festival (okay, my all-time favorite festival) is just a few short weeks away and my taste buds couldn’t be happier (my thighs, well they’re another story). The 27th annual Taste of Chicago kicks off on June 29th and I will once again be making the obligatory drive south to take in the sights, sounds and calories that make this summer event so memorable. The 10-day food extravaganza includes more than 70 restaurants, cooking demonstrations and plenty of activities for the family. And, of course, no Taste is complete without … Continue reading
