Accessorize For Less - More Belts

I have already provided you with a couple of ideas for using new items as belts, but I am not done yet. I am constantly faced with the problem of belts not fitting correctly, not being able to find them at the store in the correct size, or for my daughter, not being small enough for her.

So like an frugal mom, I have modified several everyday items and created new and fun ideas for belts. Here are a couple more.

Daddy's Tie

Is there an old tie hanging in daddy's closet? Grab one and create a cute belt with it. The fun part of this, is that either you can teach the child to tie a tie the correct way and they can fasten it like that, or you can simply use a regular knot or bow. You can also purchase ties and discount chains for less, purchasing something that coordinates well with your standard wardrobe. The more fun the tie, the more exciting the child usually finds the tie.

Bandanna

With five children we seem to have a large supply of cotton bandannas in every color, style and shape imaginable. Much the same way you would use the scarf, you can use a bandanna. Often you will find that the bandanna is not quite long enough, so tying two of them together will work better. You can even swap colors, tie multiple patterns and colors together and purchase themed ones to coordinate with certain outfits.

Feather Boa

Probably better suited for a child's wardrobe, a feather boa works great too. They are typically very long, but you can purchase exactly the amount you need at many fabric stores. Cut the length to fit the child better and you might even be able to create two belts for two children out of one feather boa. Just tie in the front and allow to hang. Children love the look and feel of feather boa's so they will love wearing it with almost any outfit.

I hope these ideas get your mind flowing on easy ways to update and accessorize your own wardrobe or your child's.
