My Frugal Stockpiling Session

Yesterday was grocery shopping day. Yes, I know that Saturdays can be tough, but as I was mentioning on one of the forums, when I go shopping, I need help. So, my husband comes along, and we make it a family affair. I do all of the price research and coupon cutting before we go, so that we are all set. Once we get there, and it is just a matter of zipping through the store or stores quickly and efficiently. My stockpile in the past few months has been looking pretty anemic. This is because we purged a lot … Continue reading

Adventures of the Stockpiling Queen (2)

In Adventures of the Stockpiling Queen (1), I shared “how a desire to save money and be prepared for anything creates a kingdom onto itself.” If you answered yes to the questions I asked, you, too, may be stockpiling royalty. I also shared the one thing that I keep hidden from my husband. Read on for the rest of my stockpiling adventures, including the reasons I stockpile… Stocking up also gives me a sense of security. I can whip up pretty much anything anyone wants for dinner, even if unexpected company drops by. Sure when they go to hang their … Continue reading

Adventures of the Stockpiling Queen (1)

This blog is about how a desire to save money and be prepared for anything creates a kingdom onto itself. Are you stock-up royalty? Take this test: Do you have at least a six-month supply of shampoo? Are you still getting through the extra toilet paper you bought for Y2K? If the neighbor came over to borrow a cup of sugar, could you oblige? What about 5 pounds of sugar? What about the entire makings for a cake that serves three hundred? If you answered yes to the above questions, then congratulations my friend. By the power vested in me … Continue reading

What Will You Do with Your Tax Rebate?

All over the news is a proposed economic stimulus that would come in the form of a tax rebate for Americans. The rebate, if it is confirmed, could provide married couples $1,200 or more, plus another $300 per child. (Singles would receive $600.) The tax rebate check is intended to get Americans to spend the money out in the retail world, to boost the economy and provide more jobs. The rebate is a bit of “found” money that many may spend on items for themselves or their homes, such as high definition televisions, gaming systems, new clothes, home improvement, etc. … Continue reading

Where to Put Your Stockpile

In the discussion on whether or not to clip coupons, part of the reason some people don’t stockpile is that they think they have no room. We’re lucky enough to have a big garage that we don’t park our cars in, but even the smallest living area has stockpile room. You just have to be creative! My friend Donna lives in a travel trailer. I know some of you are gasping at the thought, but it’s not that unusual here in rural Washington. She stockpiles. Since she lives in about 80 square feet of living space, it’s not quite as … Continue reading

Frugal Funny: Conversation Hearts

Whenever Valentines Day approaches, so do those cute little conversation hearts. You know the ones. The brightly colored necco candy with the quirky sayings such as “Sweet Talk” and “Love Me.” I can remember exchanging them with my friends when we were school girls. We never gave any to the boys, although we might leave one or two anonymously on a desk for a boy we had a crush on. Easily embarrassed, we always ate the really mushy-sounding ones that had the word “love” or “luv” in them. We did this while making goofy faces, of course. Ones that said … Continue reading

Papyrus Clearance Up to 90% Off

It seems that there was a resurgence in Christmas cards in my house this year. I can’t remember ever getting so many. My favorite this year had the Three Wise Men on the cover with Scripture inside. It was lovely, and contained a newsletter from someone I hadn’t seen in awhile. My least favorite was from our very best friends in the whole world. He’s a church elder who sent us a generic Happy Holidays card. What’s up with that? His wife spends more money on Scrapbooking and Card-making supplies every year than my husband makes in a month. Maybe … Continue reading

Is Buying in Bulk Bad for Your Budget?

You’ve probably seen all of the many headlines that infer we are getting fat from super sizing our burgers and fries. Now the media is telling us that we are also getting fat, and our wallets are getting thin, from bulk buying at the warehouse stores. ABC News aired a story claiming that the warehouse stores encourage excess; people get carried away shopping at warehouse stores, buying more than they thought they would and consuming more because they have more. “One woman we spoke with at Costco said she often spends more than what she planned to spend. “You can … Continue reading
