Affording Toys for the Holidays 2by Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 29 Oct 2009 04:15 PM Are you in a panic about how to afford the toys that you would like to give your kids this holiday? This is the second in a two-part series. Through these posts, I can offer some tips on being able to afford toys for your kids without compromising your financial stability. As you know, the holidays aren't all about toys and material gifts, but most parents want to have something fun for their kids at this time of the year. Here are some more options for affording those toys. Outgrown Sales Local churches and other organizations offer outgrown sales that include lots of toys. These sales are usually held in the spring and the fall, but you can often find one or two of these sales closer to the holidays. Often you hear about these sales through word of mouth or through flyers posted in your community. Freecycle Free toys can be wonderful. As I clean out the toys, I often set aside a big bag to offer up on freecycle. And one of my daughter's favorite toys, a pink V-Tech computer, came from freecycle. We also were able to get lots of Rescue Hero figures. You can also post your particular toy wants, although if it is a hot current toy, it might be hard to find for free. Go to Freecyle.org to find your local group. Toy Swaps Gather your friends together for a toy swap of your own. Do this without the kids, to minimize the confusion and keep the surprise if you want to save some of your finds for holiday gifts. Gather toys that you no longer need together at someone's house. Then everyone participating gets to pick out toys that they would like to bring home. The kids get new toys without the expense! You can read more blog posts by Mary Ann Romans here!
