After Christmas Sales at the Grocery Store

Think the retail stores are the only places to visit after the holidays for great sales and deep discounts? Think again. Your local grocery store is offering plenty of bargains on items that might surprise you. Plus, when you shop at your local grocery store, you can probably use coupons on some of these discounted items, making the bargains even better!

Paper Goods

One of the first places I hit on the Sunday after Christmas (when sales change over at my local grocery store) is the paper goods aisle. This is because you can get plenty of staple products for 50 percent off or more right after Christmas.

Look for paper towels with Christmas or winter patterns, Ziploc and other zippered bags, plastic wrap in festive colors (I like blue because I can use it to over aluminum foil on a cake plate to simulate water for a birthday cake), paper lunch bags, paper plates and more. I don't mind having a little bit of holiday cheer on my paper products, especially when they are half the price of the plain ones.

Candy

Of course the Christmas candy will be discounted, but go a little deeper to find even more bargains. One Christmas I found 10-packs of full-sized snickers candy bars for $1 each, or 10 cents for each full size Snickers bar. There was nothing holiday about the packaging, but it was discounted anyway. Do some digging. Most candy can be used for baking, or it can be frozen for later use.

Health and Beauty Products

Nestled in with the regular shampoo, lotion, and other health and beauty products may be products that are packaged in gift sets. Usually these are the same items, just wrapped together with festive packaging. Remove the packaging and you have your supply of items for everyday use. Check the low shelves in the health and beauty area, end caps and the seasonal aisle for health and beauty products that are packaged into gift sets.
