Snapping Baby’s First Easter

My cousin’s son is celebrating his first Easter tomorrow, and knowing his snap happy parents, the kid will likely be blind by Monday. Hopefully, it will be sunny so they won’t need to use their camera’s flash. Regardless of your subject’s age it’s always better to use natural light rather than artificial, though with babies this rule is even more important due to their delicate features. When snapping Easter photos of your newborn aim for an early morning or late afternoon session. These times are known as the “golden hours” and are best for natural light photography. Consider dressing your … Continue reading

Easter Hats, Easter Eggs and Bunnies

One of the things I used to hate about Easter when the children were at school was the Easter hat parades. Being a non crafty person the mere mention of hat parade or fancy dress was enough to send me into despair. Easter eggs always took a secondary role in Easter celebrations. Easter Eggs or bunnies never appear till Easter Sunday morning. Having two children who were allergic to chocolate when young always put a damper on it. Maybe that’s one of the reasons we never went overboard about Easter eggs. Yes, I tried carob and candy eggs but it’s … Continue reading

Two Quick Tips and an Apology

I owe everyone here on the food blog a huge apology. Not long after I started on the food blog, I posted my recipe for Middle Eastern Chicken Aussie Style. This weekend as I went to make it, when we were having guests for dinner, I found out there is a critical ingredient missing in the recipe I gave you. Fortunately I noticed that as I went to make it rather than afterwards Rather than hunt through all the myriad and books and files in which recipes are written I thought I’d just take it off my blog. That’s when … Continue reading

Frugal Easter Fun

I had complete sticker shock when I added up the cost all of the Easter basket goodies and fixings for three children who still believe in the Easter bunny. Here are some ways to be frugal but still have fun for Easter. The True Meaning It goes without saying that we, especially kids, should be aware of the true meaning of Easter. Toddlers and Easter Egg Hunts

I felt I would be remiss if I didn’t do an Easter post for Easter morning. I tried to come up with something deep and thought provoking that is worthy of what I consider to be the high Holy day of the Christian calendar. Instead, what I thought about was how my kids would miss the annual Easter egg hunt at Grandma and Papa’s this year. Our daughters will be in a dance at church this morning and the Easter Egg hunt will be long done before we even got there–if we were going. It might seem like this is … Continue reading

Taking Pictures with the Easter Bunny

So yesterday my 3-year-old daughter and I hopped down to the mall to visit Peter Cottontail. She was excited to tell the Easter Bunny what she wanted to find in her basket on Easter Sunday (that’s why he’s sitting in Santa’s chair isn’t it?) and I was thrilled to finally get a picture of my little one perched on Floppy’s lap. You see, my daughter has always been deathly afraid of any and all costumed characters. She has run screaming from Santa (multiple times); won’t go near Mickey, Minnie, any of the Care Bears, Dora, or Blue; heck, she even … Continue reading

Happy Easter!

I hope everyone has enjoyed Easter Sunday. Easter egg hunts are probably well past done, along with the aroma of delicious holiday foods cooking in the background. Some folks may also have gone to church, to give thanks for what Easter represents and enjoy beautiful musical celebrations of praise. For those that don’t celebrate in a religious manner, I hope you enjoyed your families, friends, food, and fun. Our youngest woke us up surprisingly late this morning, a very unusual occurrence for any holiday. Never expecting her to sleep so late, I didn’t set an alarm and we missed church. … Continue reading
