Buying Books from the Libraryby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 04 Jun 2007 04:47 AM Did you know that most libraries sell books for a real bargain? Some even give books away for free. I did well adding to my book collection, yesterday with my trip to the local library. Okay, I know, I know. I just wrote about using Paper Back Swap versus checking out books from the library. As I mentioned in that article, there is a lot to be said for using Paper Back Swap as my main supply source for feeding my reading habit. But, with yesterday's trip to the local library, I think I may have the best of both worlds. We have been getting rain and thunderstorms here for most of the weekend, and this has slowed us down with working around the house. We did plan on visiting a really cool, really big book sale that happens only twice a year. The last time we were there, we came away with lots and lots of books at bargain prices. But for this sale, we didn't quite get ourselves in gear in time to actually get to the sale. So instead, as a sort of compromise, and on our way to other errands, we headed out to that local library I mentioned, the one that is about 15-20 minutes away. It was a nice library, and I quickly found three books I was looking for within the first minute. Then I wandered around while my eldest son explored the children's room and picked out his own books. Soon I found a little section of books for sale. The paperback books were all in excellent shape and being offered at $.50 each or five for $2.00. This is a great bargain around here. On Saturday, when we shopped the yard sales, paperback books were going for anywhere from $1 to $2 a piece! And, the yard sale books were not in the best condition. Of course, I went over to that little section of books in the library for sale and picked out five interesting books, most of them the quality size. And guess what I did when I got home? I looked them up on Paper Back Swap, of course. They are all highly swapped books, and one of them even has a long list of people waiting for the book. So, I have the best of both worlds. I got three library books to read, and five more that can be devoured and then traded for new books. Where do you get your books?
