Black Friday is not Just for Christmas Shopping

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving when when department stores lose their proverbial minds and sell items at a loss to attract Christmas shoppers. This year will be no different. Target has gone over the deep end for the 2009 Black Friday Christmas shopping day.

I get a lot of junkmail in my mailbox, especially around the holidays. Within that junk mail are store coupons and gift cards that are worth a good amount of money. Many of us see them as temptations to spend more than we have, or wonder if there is a catch.

This is my father in law's justification to never buy cheap items. It took years to convince him that inexpensive does not always mean cheap. Some things have reduced prices because a new model has just been made.

It's that time of year again. Roles have been selected for the fall Drama Club play and it is up to the parents to pull together costumes for the play. My daughter has two small roles in Secret Garden, that of a household servant, and also a lady at the ball. That means she needs two costumes.

Wherever I go, especially yard sales, I tell people about Freecycle. For example, when we had out lucky dining room set find last weekend, I told the owners who were moving to consider joining freecycle.

I have always used EBay to make money saving purchases. When my video camera battery died, and it was no longer available in the stores, I did not buy a new camera, I got a new battery on EBay. When the cat popped a few keys off my daughter's laptop, I didn't spend $100.
