For this next blog in my series of factory tours, I thought I would do a little research on chocolate tours. Do you believe that there are more than 40 tours around the nation that have something to do with chocolate? Below are just some of the highlights. Hershey's Chocolate World, Hershey, Pa Hershey is the absolute king of chocolate tours. In fact, visiting Hershey is more like visiting an entire theme park. The tour part is really a visitor's center. There is a 3D show, a trolley works, rides, a large marketplace (we stocked up on Halloween candy there) and plenty of restaurants. When good friends of ours moved to Hershey, PA, they invited us over for a weekend. We had an amazing time. This "tour" really deserves its own blog, so look for one in the near future. Cost: Free for the visitor's center "tour," but costs vary for other parts of the complex. For more info click here. *** Anthony-Thomas, Columbus, OH You'll need a group of ten or more to tour the candy kitchen, and tours are by appointment only. But their website certainly looks yummy! Cost: Free For more info click here. *** Asher's Chocolates, Sounderton, PA Asher's chocolates is a big name here in PA. This self guided tour gets you right in to see the actual chocolate being made. This is the oldest family owned and operated candy factory in the country. Cost: Free For more info click here. *** Big Island Candies, Hilo, HI Big Island candies focuses on chocolates and cookies made with macadamia nuts, fresh eggs and other Hawaiian-grown ingredients. This company is known for its innovation with chocolate and its welcoming customer service. There are lots of free samples. Cost: Free For more info click here. *** DeBrand Chocolatier, Fort Wayne, IN This elaborate tour lets you watch some of "the world's most elite chocolatiers in action." You'll learn all about the chocolate making process and visit three chocolate kitchens. Samples are available. Cost: $5 per person, and you receive a $5 off a $10 purchase coupon.
