Craigs List: The Online Tag Saleby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 14 Jan 2007 07:33 AM
Are you familiar with Craigslist? If you are a savvy shopper can save a lot by taking advantage of the deals at this site, or even earn some money buy selling your excess items. Craigslist is an online site where people place free ads for all sorts of things. From toys to real estate, a job to a date, you can find lots of great opportunities. Although Craigslist started out as a way for people in San Francisco to connect and exchange goods, it has since expanded all across the country. The site still focuses on connecting local people. Find the major city or area near you and click. You will find all sorts of categories to explore. My favorite sections are under the "for sale" area. Think of a giant online tag sale, where all of the goods are neatly categorized. I am a frequent visitor to the "baby + kids" section, where I have made some great purchases on a Peg Perego double pram and baby clothes. Other sections I visit include "books," "barter" and "household." There is also a "free" section, which operates along the lines of freecycle. Recently, I spotted cases of unopened baby food offered there, absolutely free. When the weather is warmer, and I am in the mood for some actual get-out-and-walk-around tag sales, I look under the "garage sale" section for lists of upcoming sales in my area. I have found many multiple family and estate sales that way. Although I usually pass along, donate or have an outgrown sale with most of my kids old clothes, toys and equipment, I decided to see what it was like to post some of these items for sale. The results were really good. Within a week, I was able to sell boxes of clothes for very little effort on my part. Posting an ad to Craigs List is absolutely free. The Craigslist Community has a definite solidarity to it. People look out for each other. Posts that might try to take advantage of people, such as the ones selling the hot new elmos for $300 or more, are quickly deleted. Check out Craigslist and tell me what you think.
