Decorating Furniture and Accessories with Wallpaper

wallpaper Wallpaper ends can be used in so many fun ways to dress up your home. Wallpaper is not just for the walls. And if you can get a hold of some free wallpaper, then these decorating projects won't cost you a thing, except maybe a little spray adhesive.

To create a custom look that is perfect for a formal, Victorian or Regency-style room, consider using wall paper on a wooden valance as a window treatment. The wallpaper will fool the eye into thinking that you have a fabric valance or swag. A wallpaper border looks especially nice with this idea.

If you have an older piece of furniture or one that has seen better days, why not update it with wallpaper. This will give the furniture new life and eye-catching detail. You can accent details on the piece. Cover the draw fronts of an old dresser with complementary or contrasting pieces of wall paper. Wardrobe doors will pop when you cover them in wallpaper. Try adding wallpaper to a headboard for a great look that can be customized to compliment your bed linens.

When you are designing or updating your room, consider the accessories. To create a matching lamp in your room, first paint a plain lamp shade in a complimentary color. Then add a wall paper border around the bottom edge. You can adapt this idea to other accessories in your room, such as a wallpaper-covered treasure box for a little girl.

Where can you get free wallpaper? Try the following resources:

  • Check your own home for leftovers
  • Check on freecycle.org and make a request for wallpaper
  • Visit a store that sells wallpaper and ask for their wallpaper ends or discontinued wallpaper books
  • Check out the clearance bin at your local home improvement store
  • Keep an eye out for wallpaper at yard sales.
