The Store that Ruined Christmas Dinner

I am mad. Boy am I mad. Late Christmas morning, after the gifts had been frantically opened, the Toyland town was all around the Christmas Tree and the kids were happily settled in to playing with their new gifts, it was time to get Christmas dinner started. The potatoes were already peeled and in the pot, ready to become our famous mashed potatoes that were so good that a friend is still convinced that we put some sort of addictive substance in the recipe to make him crave them in his sleep. The pumpkin pie was already in the fridge, … Continue reading

Freezer Cooking: What If I Ruin It (2)

As I mentioned in the previous article, many first-time freezer cookers are worried that they will make a mistake or ruin a meal. There are several questions I have been asked, and I’d like to answer them for everyone. What if I want to try a new dish and I am not sure about how it will freeze or turn out when I am ready to serve it? I have an easy answer for that actually. Something I do often. Prepare the meal for your family one night. Take out a small portion and freeze it. Wait about a week … Continue reading

5 Reasons Why You Need a Seal-a-Meal

1. No more freezer burn. I’m one of those people who likes to cook once a week, or better yet once a month. The trouble with doing such efficient cooking is you need to find an equally efficient form of storage. I’ll admit it, I’m cheap. I buy the store brand zipper bags for everyday storage. The trouble with that, and even with the more costly Ziploc bags is that there is no way to efficiently remove all the air from the bag prior to freezing. (The air inside the bag is what causes freezer burn.) Ever since I broke … Continue reading

The Miracle School Supply

I honestly think I may have found the best school supply ever. At least for those of us who enjoy living a more frugal lifestyle, always looking for the cheap school supplies! Every year at back to school time we fight strangers for supplies, that quite honestly are expensive and most are used up before first quarter is even over. Then whatever is leftover is usually lost or ruined by the end of second quarter. Leaving you to start all over again mid school year. My least favorite school supply to purchase has always been folders. And how many different … Continue reading
