Frugal Fall Decorating (2)

Continuing our discussion from yesterday's article on Frugal Fall Decorating, there are many more ideas to incorporate into your home that I'd like to share.

As a pretty centerpiece you can sprinkle the leaves you found around the base of a big wooden bowl filled with pine cones and acorns. You can even add scent if you'd like.

Another cool idea is bird seed makes a perfectly acceptable, and very frugal fall decoration when placed around the base of a candle to hold it in place.

Dried corn husks, gourds and pumpkins can be grouped together on coffee tables, as centerpieces, on a fireplace mantle, etc.

You can use glass jars and large pillar candles with different items inside each jar to hold the candle in place. Try things like acorns and leaves, bird seed, pine cone petals, and more.

Purchase an inexpensive fall wreath that is not decorated from the dollar store. You can add your own natural items that you found on your nature walk. Hang it on the front door, or hang it inside the house somewhere.

Children can make pine cone wreaths and decorate the same way. Take a wire hanger and bend it into a circular shape. Parents should hot glue the bottom of the pine cones to the wire hanger in a circle. Allow children to decorate the wreath with acorns, dried grass, leaves, berries and anything else their little hearts think of. Make it a family project!

Your main goal in decorating frugally for the autumn months is to consider natural items, and using what you might already have. You also want to use items that will last the majority of the autumn months, but don't hesitate to replenish something that might not look as great as it did at the start.

Happy Autumn!
