Fathers day is coming up fast. If you haven’t started shopping for your husband and/or Father, then you may end up either paying too much for with a gift that will scream “last minute”. Buying for men is a hard job. First of all, most items for men are either expensive, or not something a woman would think about. We walk into electronics stores and our eyes glaze over. Go into the hardware store and and feel exhausted. So how do we find a good Father’s Day gift for the men in our lives? Don’t worry, I have a few … Continue reading

Frugal Finds for the Cat in Your Life

Many people seem to think that cats are the easy pet and that they just lay around all day and don’t do much. While that is true in many cases and I can certainly relate, our cat loves to play and will do it all day (with a few catnaps for good measure) if she has enough things to do. However, I hate purchasing all the expensive toys on the market, so I was sure, just sure there was a way to keep her amused without the expense. I was right. Dangles Cats love things that dangle. Being a single parent is a lonely road among the world sometimes. Since there are so many single parents these days though, approximately 14 million, you just have to find the right company. You have to know where to look. Most single parent homes, it is known, empower the mother as the head of the household. This is thought to be as high as 85%. The Dogs vs. the Laser Pointer

My new roommates just picked up a new laser pointer for playing with their cats. Let the hilarity ensue! The two cats are pretty entertaining when the laser pointer is out. They chase the spot around the room, stare at it in horror when the red dot is on a paw, and go skittering into the bathroom (and onto the tile) at full speed in pursuit. Since it was such fun and great exercise for the kitties, we decided to try it on my dogs Moose and Lally. My roommate M. was in control of the laser pointer; I sat … Continue reading

Caffeine Linked to Underweight Babies

Here is one more reason to avoid caffeine, especially if you are pregnant. Even a little use of caffeine is linked to slower fetal growth. Underweight babies are subject to a number of problems, including some that occur later in life, such as heart conditions, high blood pressure and … Continue reading
