Frugal Moving Tips (1)by Nicole Humphrey | More from this Blogger 16 Aug 2006 01:28 PM
Moving day is always exceptionally hard on anyone, but often it's the day's leading to it that can be the most trying. Between all the packing, rentals, and more - it's just too much. Here are some great tips on saving on the basics - packing supplies. They are usually a required part of moving and are usually what you need first. Tossed Boxes Boxes are typically the number one item you need when packing. First, look around you for ways to save on boxes. You can ask department stores to save them for you, grocery stores, and any number of other establishments. Their deliveries all arrive in boxes and most of them just tear them down and then pitch them. So be sure to ask around and don't get discouraged by the "no's" you might receive, some companies can just be weird about it. But most won't hesitate to give them to you. Especially if you are hauling them away! Bought Boxes If you just cannot seem to find any establishment who will let you have their tossed boxes (which I still find VERY hard to believe) you have several options. Either you can run to Uhaul and stock up on their boxes or you can try other moving supply companies. The one benefit of Uhaul is that they will take back any unused boxes and give you your money back! And you can buy them in bulk. It is the perfect incentive to purchase your boxes from Uhaul just to get them in bulk knowing full well that you will be able to bring back what you don't use! That's a huge money saver! Packaging Tape Another must have item for packing and moving. You have to be able to seal all those cheap boxes closed. So here are some tips. First, check the dollar stores. Often they sell the tape, and it's just as good as most other places. If not, and there is no dollar tree or dollar store near you that actually carries packing tape, you CAN use duct tape which is cheap and really strong and can be found most anywhere. You can also make a cootie catcher which is a folded up paper that makes like a glove that you put your fingers in and switch from side to side revealing answers on chosen colors that you picked when it is still folded. You can make up stories about moving cross country by picking selected words. Keeps kids busy for a long duration. www.boxyourstuff.com Community Tags moving tips, moving, packing tips, tips for moving, truck rental Discuss this article
