The Best Ways to Save on Party Supplies

This year, my six-turning-seven-year-old wants a castle theme party. Since this will be our third castle theme birthday party (it seems to be a tradition with the kids in our family), I may just have this one down pat. Of course, things have changed a little bit since the first party of its kind. I’ve noticed that party supplies are a bit more expensive. When I first started with party planning, my first and sometimes only stop for party supplies would be one of those party stores. While they can be great for finding exactly what you want, they tend … Continue reading

Frugal Goodie Bags

Birthday parties for kids can be fun, although the cost of these parties can quickly add up. One of the costs that can quickly get out of hand are the goodie bags. Although some parents do get very elaborate with goodie bags (one family gave out $50 toy store gift cards and tickets to the circus), even filling the bags with traditional small toys and candy can can add up. This coming Saturday, we are having a birthday party for my two boys, and we want to offer goody bags to the guests at the end of the party. We … Continue reading

Our Frugal Birthday

Today our little guy turns one. In about 30 minutes, as I write this. I can’t believe that the time has gone by so quickly. I know it is a cliche, but it truly does feel like yesterday (or at least last week) since he was a little mewling newborn. We feel so blessed to have him. We discussed and debated over what to do for his birthday to celebrate. And we decided to have a quiet family celebration, to make it less overwhelming and more focused on him. Our older two children had elaborate birthday parties, so this is … Continue reading

Frugal Pirate Party Favor

Guess what I am doing right now? Okay, besides typing this up to you of course. In between sentences, I am doing something else. I’ll give you a hint. My son’s birthday party is this Saturday. Okay, so I know that I blew the surprise in the title of the blog. But humor me. I’ve been going crazy trying to plan out a wonderful kid’s pirate party for as little money as possible. These kids parties can get expensive, can’t they? You may remember an earlier article entitled Frugal Kids Parties: Ways to Save. Using some of those techniques have … Continue reading

Frugal Kids Birthday Parties: Theme Products for Less

As my son’s six-year-old birthday party approaches, I am again reminded about how expensive it can be to have a kids birthday party. From decorations to food, and don’t forget about activities and goody bags, the expenses can all add up pretty quickly. I took a look at paper products, for example, that have a pirate theme on them. Not only are there the plates, cups, bowls and napkins available, but also centerpieces, goodie bags and more. Now these were generic pirates, not Pirates of the Caribbean or anything that has any sort of merchandising tie in at all. Yet, … Continue reading

Four Ways to Save Money on Birthday Cake

This week we are in the middle of trying to finalize plans for an upcoming birthday party for our two sons. Two boys with birthdays only a month apart means one party to save the relatives from traveling, but two separate cakes with different themes. All of that cake can add up in expense. Here are four different ways to save money on birthday cake. With these various options, you should be able to find your own great way to shave off some of the cost of the birthday cake. Buy a regular birthday cake but skip the special decorating. … Continue reading

Fish Bait Kids Snack

This is a really fun snack for a summer party, a class snack or a birthday party. Personally, I will be using this recipe for my son’s upcoming birthday party in two weeks. He is having a pirate theme for his party. I’m going to triple the batch (at least) and serve it in a wooden treasure chest that I found at the craft store. This recipe is so simple to make, and yet, I am sure that it will make a big impact with the kids. You could also try it for any outdoor gathering or picnic. If you … Continue reading

Download Some New Software

Avast Ye Mateys! Download.com Is a software treasure hunt. Can you tell that I am in pirate mode? That is because we are busy planning my son’s birthday party. He will be six and wants a treasure-hunting pirate theme. It is all about pirates right now, and fortunately, I was able to find some cool pirate-y software programs to occupy his obsession until the big day. Download.com has been providing safe virus and spyware free software for many years. I remember downloading programs from this website many years ago, when it was ultra cool just to have a screen saver … Continue reading
