Frugal Shopping: When to Start Home Improvement Projects and Save the Mostby Nicole Humphrey | More from this Blogger 27 Apr 2007 08:19 AM Home improvement projects, can really spruce up the place. In addition, they add value to your home, and make it easier to sell. Even if you are not selling or looking to spruce up the place, you might have a home improvement project you would like to get started anyway. Because of all the different items needed for home improvement projects, I contacted the store manager of a well-known home improvement supply company. He allowed me to get the insider's scoop on the best times of year to purchase many of their supplies. Apparently this is the same, no matter where you buy. Tools go on sale during May and June. Periodically throughout the year, they will run specials on different items, but May and June are standard months for a great bargain. If you have a yard project, most yard equipment is also best during the months of May and June. The exception to this rule, is gardening supplies, which seem to hold better bargains during August and September, after season, of course. Need to paint a wall? Try to prolong the project until August or September to get the best value on paint and supplies. Windows and Doors are typically a great bargain during off season months, like January, February and March. If you know you have a project coming up in the Spring, try to plan ahead, if at all possible, to save the most. Larger projects might require a little lumber or some building materials. These are best purchased during the month of June. Larger home improvement type appliances, such as air conditioners, water heaters, and other items are often needed during less that ideal times. However for the very best prices found on these items, try to shop and purchase them during the months of February, July and August.
