Let’s face it after all, pageants are an expensive hobby. But once a diva, always a diva. Frugalista Fashions: The 1980’s are Back!

In visiting the outlet mall these last few weeks as fall fashions begin to fill up the store, I have found one thing in common with everything in the stores. I wore the same fashions in the late 1980’s. Black and teal plaid shirts, short bubble skirts, crop jackets, skinny jeans and bold costume jewelry found in the stores remind me of everything I wore in my last year of high schools. This is great news for the frugal woman. If you are the type to hold onto clothes for twenty years you can dig out those old items and … Continue reading

Frugalista Fashions: Buying Clothes on Ebay

As a frugal fashionista, I purchase a lot of clothing items on EBay. The items I purchase most often are my daughters Character Shoes for drama club, Pageant accessories, lingerie, and winter sweaters. Pricewise, there are several things you need to consider when you are shopping on Ebay. The one question you need to ask yourself is: can I purchase it somewhere else cheaper? Tips for Shopping at Amazon.com

Amazon.com is a frugal person’s paradise, especially when you are in the market for school books or Christmas presents. Their second-hand market is comparable to Ebay prices and if a sale does not go the way you think it should, Amazon.com is glad to run interference… unlike eBay. When there is an item I need to buy and did not pay full price I find that my search often ends at Amazon. From vitamins, to hair oils, to homeschool supplies, and electronics. I have even purchased dressy clothes and formal wear. You can’t go wrong with Amazon.com if you know … Continue reading

Dust Free Thrift Store Shopping

I do manage to go in anyway a few times a year as I can’t help but purchase books there anyway, it is definitely worth to pain. But when I do, I have to deal with a rash that forms across my jaw (where I touch my face alot) and I also have do suffer through a couple of days of coughing and sneezing. This is why I tend to avoid the thrift store and shop at … Continue reading

Tips on Saving Money on Back to School Supplies

Between back to school clothes and back to school fees, it is enough to give a parent back to school blues. On top of everything else, you are required to purchase a seemingly unending list of notebooks, paper, glue, and scissors. By the time you get the actual list, all of the good stuff is gone from the stores. To make matters worse, school supplies are very expensive! A zip up binder can cost $14.00, a standard five subject notebook can cost $7.00, and crayons and markers have gone up considerably in price over the years. To make you life … Continue reading

Tips on haggling

Even the shy can haggle Before leaving Los Angeles, we were sure to spend an afternoon shopping the infamous Santee Alley. Santee Alley is in the Fashion District of downtown Los Angeles. There are thousands of clothing showrooms in the area, discount fabrics stores, and my favorite clothes and accessories. We were mostly doing back-to-homeschool shopping for my 13 year old daughter, as my son hates to shop, and the items were far too fashionable for old fogies as my husband and myself. Since my daughter was the one shopping I got her involved in the haggling process, which is … Continue reading
