Money Saving Decor Projects

Sure it would be nice to have a showroom of a home, complete with the finest accessories and decor, but hey, that just isn’t reality, or is it? I’ve come across some cool projects that we can do ourselves. For a hour or less and a little pocket change, we can wind up with stunning pieces to accessorize our homes. For some reason, I wanted to focus on home craft projects that involve glass. I think this is because my recycling bin always seems to be overflowing with glass jars and bottles. Why not turn all of that glass into … Continue reading

Hold on to Your Money: Cabinet Knobs

Are you just itching to do a renovation in your home but know that it isn’t a good idea to spend any money right now? Sometimes just changing a little inexpensive thing can make a big difference. Fresh new knobs can bring new life to your cabinets, drawers or even furniture. You can feel blessed with something modern and new without spending much at all. Outlet Shopping

Sure, I love the thrift stores and the yard sales, but they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Outlet stores, on the other hand, can really appeal to a wider form of frugality. Also, there are some times when shopping an outlet store is preferable to thrift stores and yard sales, even for me. This past Friday, we headed up to Lancaster County (Amish country) to have a nice family day. Our last stop for the day was an outlet mall, where a wide array of brand name stuff could be had for much less than retail. We were there specifically … Continue reading

Make Your Own Pavers

This spring, I think one of my projects is going to be to put in some walking pavers in our backyard. The yard is sloped and can get a bit slippery for the kids, when they walk down to it. Pavers might be a nice way to create a little walk that is practical and attractive at the same time. I started pricing out pavers. They can run from $4 a piece to $10 a piece, depending on the style. Since I think I might need at least ten of them, that expense could really add up. Next, I thought … Continue reading

Do What You Can and Save Money

If you have been reading my articles over at the Home Blog, you know that we will be having carpet installed in our family room. (If you missed that article, you can click here to read it: Adventures in Carpeting.) We came to the decision after some debate. Carpet will help insulate and warm up the floors (the family room is over a cold crawl space) and make it more comfortable. It is cheaper than installing hardwood floors. The current vinyl floor tiles are literally disintegrating and have become a safety hazard. Beside the risk of tripping over them and … Continue reading
