Toddler Book: Polly’s Pink Pajamas

I love pajamas. Pajamas are cute and comfortable. Jessie is very particular about her jammies. She will tell you that she wants to wear Doo Doo Dora, Elmo, or Princess. She will let you know if she plans to embellish her jammies with a tutu. Some of our favorite days are jammie days. Jammie days are the days that we lounge around the house without ever changing out of our jammies. It’s much easier to leave Jessie and Baby E in jammies too. Some days Jessie just does not want to get dressed. It’s bad when those are school days, … Continue reading

October 1st Insect Repellent and Young Children Protecting my children is the number one priority, but one thing that I tend to avoid is insect repellent. How to Handle Those Crazy Sunday Mornings

I’m not sure what it is about Sunday mornings that makes them so crazy. Any other day of the week I can have my kids clean, fed, dressed and ready to go by 8:30 AM. However, when Sunday morning rolls around getting out the door by 9:10 AM seems like an impossible feat. Caleb is looking for his shoe, my husband and I are hunting down all of our Sunday school materials and the breakfast dishes are laying dirty on the table. Maybe it’s because my husband is home and so I spend more time with him, maybe it’s just … Continue reading

Be Gentle

There was a woman I knew growing up who lived at the end of our street. I remember another woman in our ward talking to my mother about how much she wished that she had this other woman’s life. On the outside she appeared the have the perfect life; married, with three beautiful children, a nice house in a nice neighborhood. To this woman it appeared that she had it all. Little did she know that this was her second marriage. Her first husband beat her and her son on countless occasions. She had been through a nasty divorce and … Continue reading

Freezing My … Off

This week, I am making it one of my frugal goals to freeze a little something each and every day. Today it is mashed potatoes and also banana chocolate chip muffins. Yesterday, it was sour cream corn muffins, and the day before it was regular chocolate chip muffins. I’ve been doing this by making extra and then packing up some aspect of our regular meals, such as the leftover muffins from breakfast or preparing a whole six pounds of mashed potatoes (before the butter and milk). By doing this, I really don’t have to do much additional preparation. I measure … Continue reading

Grateful For The Opportunity to Work From Home

One great thing about being a home – based professional is that you can do your work in the comfort of your own home. This aspect of home – based work has been especially enjoyable the past few months as I have gotten more and more pregnant and less and less comfortable in the maternity clothes that I wore the last time around. As offensive as it is to my sense of fashion, I spend much of my time in sweatpants including my work time. Some home – based professionals would advise against working in your pajamas or sweatpants, insisting … Continue reading

Shoe Boxes to the Rescue

I know the tree and decorations are not even put away yet but it’s time to think about getting organized for next Christmas. The first thing to do is start saving boxes. Every box that comes into your house that could possibly be filled with Christmas loot, find a home for it now. One thing I like to do is save shoe boxes. Shoe boxes are great for so many things but they are really wonderful for Christmas. The best part is you can wrap the top and bottom separately and then just put on the lid instead of taping … Continue reading

Want the Best Bargain at the Store? Dig for It!

Some stores certainly don’t make saving money easy, despite what they claim. Often the best bargains are really hard to find and even harder to get. The patient shopper, however, will be rewarded with savings. Take your time when you shop, put in a little extra effort and use the following tips to save money on all of your purchases. Isn’t it a pain to find items on clearance? They are usually somewhere off in the back, the signs are confusing (was that 30 percent off or 50 percent off on the other side of the rack), and clothing items … Continue reading

Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneurs

Although I am not much of a list person, today I came across a list that I think is worth mentioning. It is a list of twenty-five common characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, and it originally appeared in “The Ultimate Home Based Business Handbook” by James Stephenson. For those of us that are already running our home businesses, this list is a good self-evaluation tool that we can use to identify areas where we can improve in order to achieve even greater success. For people that are wondering whether a home-based business is right for them, the list is useful as … Continue reading
