How to Save Money on Bathing Suits

The neighbors have already invited us to use their pool and with just a few weeks of school left, there is talk of making a trip to the beach. The only problem was the bathing suit situation. Here are my tips for saving money on bathing suits, or bathing costumes, as my more elegant friends call them.

I am a big advocate for buying things used to save money, but I just can't get over the ew factor when it comes to a used bathing suit. It is up there on my list with used underwear. I have a friend who has no such aversions, and so far despite wearing used bathing suits she hasn't turned purple and keeled over yet.

My exception to this is for young children. They are usually in swim diapers anyway or at least kids bathing suits don't seem as squeamish to me. So I can do used for the youngest members of our family. For the older members, I've always had some luck shopping the end of year clearance sales. I've picked up bathing suits marked 80 percent off that way. But if you need a bathing suit now, sales in the fall won't help you.

If you can wait until after Memorial Day, you will see big drops in the cost of bathing suits. Most people shop for their suits either the the weekend before Memorial Day or the weekend of Memorial Day. So, if you can wait just a week after Memorial Day, you'll see significant sales.

Using online deals and coupon codes can reduce the price of a bathing suit, even on a sale item. The trick is to try the suit on at the store and then note down the brand and the style. Next, go online and search for codes. Purchase the bathing suit online and apply the code.

Happy swimming!
