How to Save Money on Entertainmentby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 21 Apr 2009 06:13 AM
Theater and Concerts Waiting until the last minute can really save you money on tickets for the theater, musical concerts and other shows. Close to show time, tickets can go for a bargain price. This is because the theater would rather sell the seats for something than allow them to remain empty. While consolidated discount ticket booths can be seen in major cities (like TKS in NYC), you can also call your local theater to see if they offer any discounts right before the show. Of course, you'll need to be flexible in your plans, in case the show is already sold out. Sports Venue In order to enjoy the game, get hired part time or offer to volunteer. Just emptying a couple of trash cans or tearing tickets may entitle you to catch all or most of the big game. Plus, if it is a job, you'll actually make money on the deal. Museums and Zoos How about free admission to your favorite zoo, museum or park? Many of these venues offer discount days, special promotions or even free admission at certain times or days. The Philadelphia Zoo, for example offered $2 admission during winter, and a popular children's museum here in the are offers free admission on Sunday mornings. Check out the websites for the attractions near you, search forums and ask people you know if they have heard about any discounts or deals. Also check your local library. Many libraries offer passes to local attractions that you can check out for the day. I don't know if that is common practice or not, but it works great for us because we have small children who wouldn't make it through the whole game anyways. Mary Ann Romans (26886) 23 Apr 2009 11:23 AMWhat a great tip! I will check that out here in my hometown. Tashi (1013) 28 Apr 2009 01:09 PMI would *love* to work for the Minnesota Twins, just to get in for free. But all of the ushers at the ballpark I've seen, are almost always standing by seating sections, facing the crowd, and not the game. While the idea sounds great, *I'd* be too distracted by wanting to watch the game, instead of preventing someone from stealing seats that aren't theirs, breaking up fights, or preventing some nut from leaping over the wall and onto the field.
