How to Save Money on Your Wedding

Despite the economy, you still want a fabulous wedding, right? Well, with a few ideas, you can have a great wedding without settling for a backyard barbecue while wearing jeans and a veil (unless that is your dream wedding--then go for it!).

Decide what is most important

The best way to start with saving money on your wedding is to decide what means the most to you. This way, you'll know where to concentrate your energy. Have your dreamt of a fabulous designer dress? Is the quality of the photography most important? How about the food or the bar? There may be other areas you can reduce or cut out altogether to afford the things that you really want at your wedding.

Haggle and barter

People everywhere are spending less on weddings, so make sure that you learnt o haggle and barter for what you want. Service providers may have a little more room in their pricing right now because they need the business. If you are unused to haggling, start on the smaller expenses until you have the experience and the confidence to move up to bigger expenses.

Do you have a skill or service of your own? Use that to barter a service or a reduction in price. A friend of mine who cleans homes bartered a number of cleaning sessions in exchange for professional hair and makeup on the big day.

Be different about the day

It is amazing how pricing can be reduced almost all the way around when you choose to be married anytime other than a Saturday afternoon or a Saturday evening reception. Yes, Saturdays are convenient for your guests, but chances are that you'll be able to afford a more fabulous wedding if you choose a Friday night or even another day during the week.
