How to Track Supermarket Prices

Keeping track of supermarket prices is a big way to save on your grocery bill. Knowing when to buy something as well as where to buy it will automatically save you at least 30 percent off of the price you are paying for your groceries without changing the amount or even the type of groceries you buy. It is simply a matter of always getting the best price. Keep reading. I'll share some simple steps that you can do to keep track of supermarket prices, or in other words, create a price book.

First start analyzing your grocery bill. Save every grocery receipt when you shop, no matter which store you visit. In fact, it is pretty helpful if you do shop at more than one. With these lists in hand, take a look at the regular and the sale prices of the grocery items that you buy on a regular basis. This will help you to figure out which stores have the best prices on particular items. It will also help you see a pattern to the sales on your most often bought items.

Next, take a look at the store flyers. It used to be that you had to get them through the mail or paper delivery, but these days, you can easily look up your flyers online. The flyers will feature loss leader sales. These are items that are so cheap that they may actually lose the store money (the store usually makes up the loss when you go in and buy plenty of other groceries). Keep track of these prices. Shop the loss leaders and plan your meals around them. For example, if chicken is on sale, then plan your meals for the week to incorporate it.

Finally, take a look at forums and boards for frugal people. Many are organized by store, so you can often get tips on unadvertised specials on items. And chances are that these specials will come up again in a certain number of weeks or months, so look for them.
