Putting Things in a Safe Place

There is nothing more frustrating that knowing you have something and not being able to find it when you need it. I did this recently. I put a book in such a safe place I couldn’t find it. Why on earth didn’t I just put it on my desk or the bookshelf you might ask? I have no idea. Instead I slipped it into a safe place till I could get around to reading and reviewing it. I put it in such a safe place that when I wanted it, I couldn’t find it. I had a feeling I’d done … Continue reading

How to Store Cookbooks

As I was writing about favorite cookbooks for the food blog it made me wonder about where people store their cookbooks. Some people I know have a display shelf in the kitchen with their cookbooks on it. Usually these are the big glossy cookbooks with lots of color photographs. The disadvantage is they can tend to look untidy this way if you’re not careful. The thought of putting my cook books on display horrifies me. Mine are tucked into two cupboards above the stove. Heritage Photos – How Best To Deal With Them

Recently I was asked for some help on organizing and scrapbooking some very old memorabilia, as well as photos, that a woman had inherited from her family. Most of this dated back to WWII and although scrapbooking isn’t any different for those time periods, the delicacy of the photos as well as the memorabilia does pose special challenges. She found herself overwhelmed by all she had in her possession and being unsure as to what should be included and as safely as possible. I was also asked about 3 dimensional scrapbooking for the small pins, medals and name cards that … Continue reading

There is also a show called Trash to Treasure that is devoted to turning throwaway items into useable things. These shows offer great solutions for using what you have, or picking up inexpensive items at salvage centers, thrift stores, garage sales, or collecting things from friends and family you no longer need them. With a little creativity and effort, you’ll be amazed what you can make from odds and ends. A block of leftover wood can easily become a … Continue reading

Working With Scraps: Part One

I think most scrapbookers have a pile of scraps that have accumulated in their scrapbook room. Everything from paper scraps, to sticker remnants, ribbons, fiber and so much more. Thanks to ingenious organizing, I now have all mine separated in my scrapbook room and they are in nicely organized containers (something I will discuss in another entry). However, I really have a lot – probably too much. Since I tend to be on the frugal side in my everyday life, I’m trying to carry it over to my scrapbooking and crafting as well. The most often heard piece of advice, … Continue reading
