Trusting in a Bigger Picture

I’ve always believed that everything in life happens for a reason. My life hasn’t gone at all how I thought it would, but there have been many lessons that I have learned along my bumpy path. I made a lot of mistakes when I was younger. There were a few years when I wandered aimlessly. I had no real purpose, I was simply living in the moment, without realizing the lasting consequences that those decisions would make someday. My divorce gave me a chance to put all that behind me. It gave me a chance to start anew. I had … Continue reading

Bigger Is Not Always Better

When it comes to scrapbooks does size really matter? Traditional memory albums measure 12×12. However, a new survey shows that smaller scrapbooks are gaining in popularity. Among the most sought-after mini albums are: 4×4, 6×6, 8×8, 7.5×4.5 license plate albums, 8.5×11 D-ring albums, and 11×8.5 landscape binders. According to scrapbooking insiders, it will be a long time before the12x12 album gets edged out of the top spot. Despite the influx of smaller books, the 12×12 remains the dominant size in the field. However, mini albums are coming on strong, in large part because an increasing number of crafters are seeing … Continue reading

Bigger Blooms for Your Orchids

Gardening is one of those hobbies where people love to share what they have learned. Friends of ours recently bought an orchid at a local gardening fair. As you know, I love orchids but our association with them is very much a hit and miss affair. Neither Mick nor I really know all that much about growing them. We just know we like them. Friends told us that the orchid experts claim that if you cut the spike of flowers off while they are still flowering and put them in a vase that the flower blooms will be better on … Continue reading

Being Frugal Is A Way Of Life – New FL Blogger Intro

Finally, I’m writing my Frugal Living introduction post. Better late than never, I always say. I wanted to say hello to my fellow FL living blogger Mary Ann Romans, and all of Families.com new bloggers. Since starting with this website about a month ago I’ve been having a lot of fun writing in my various topics. Being able to share and learn is a wonderful thing. As the title of my blog today states, being frugal truly is a way of life, not just one area of it. Many times someone may start out counting pennies in the area of … Continue reading

A Bigger Business is Not Always Better

We often talk here in the Home Business blog about ways to grow and expand our businesses. Growth, overall, is considered a good thing. We need our businesses to grow and expand in order for them to stay healthy. Many of us are a little wary, however, about how big we really want to get. After all, we may have started our home businesses precisely because we needed something small and manageable and we wanted to get away from that big corporate mentality. The question we ask ourselves is whether or not a bigger business is necessarily a better one? … Continue reading

Is Bigger Always Better?

If you think you are getting a deal with those large sized packages, you better check again. Sometimes smaller packages offer better deals. When Bigger Sizes Don’t Pay Most of the time, buying groceries and other items in bulk or in a larger size is usually a pretty frugal idea. But there are also quite a number of times when buying smaller is better. Here is what I mean: When you have a coupon. If you have a coupon, or even better, multiple copies of a coupon, it usually pays to apply it to the lowest priced item that you … Continue reading

Research Confirms the “Parenting Happiness Gap”

There has been debate over which group of people are happier: parents, or people who do not have children. In general, this argument relies on individual people’s perceptions based on their own experiences. Research has confirmed that the “parenting happiness gap” exists. The correlating factors that make parents less happy than non-parents has a lot to do with where the parents live. The “parenting happiness gap” is a phrase that sums up a reality that may surprise some people. No matter what country you live in, or what stage of life you may be at, people who do not have … Continue reading

Earning Money for Furniture

I’m trading in my clutter for some nice, new bedroom furniture. I’ve always dreamed of some gorgeous bedroom furniture. The set we have now belonged to my husband for more years than he can remember. As a bachelor, he purchased it at an estate sale. He was going for more function than form and the idea that bigger is better, I think. It does have a ton of storage, I do have to admit. In fact, the headboard with its attached  sets of doors and drawers have more storage than we have clothes. I’ve taken to storing books in them. … Continue reading

Raising an Independent Child

As a parent you’ve probably heard the all familiar phrase, “I can do it myself!” Logan’s been a pro at this one for about as long as I can remember. He always wants to do everything on his own, if you try to help him he smacks your hand away, until he’s succeeded on his own. While this can be rather annoying for a parent, as it does tend to take about ten times as long, it is actually a very crucial step in your child’s development. You may be tempted to take over for your child, to speed things … Continue reading
