A few months ago, Kevin McGuire, an eighteen year old who has cancer, ended up getting a date with Taylor Swift. Unfortunately, he isn’t well, and cannot go to the Country Music Awards with her, after all. His community is showing him a ton of support, in response. With the Dream scheduled to make its maiden voyage at the end of January, many new details about the ship have been announced in anticipation of this event. Simon Cowell has stepped up to help the victims of the devastating Haiti earthquake. Although time is running out for rescue efforts, help is still needed in aiding the survivors and rebuilding. Cowell is going to do what he does best – make a record. He has chosen to re-release REM’s single “Everybody Hurts.” REM’s manager, Bertis Downs, has said the band will waive all royalty rights for the song and that the band is touched Cowell chose their song. More people and organizations have responded to the need in Haiti after a devastating 7.0 earthquake hit the island nation last Tuesday. The Red Cross has made it easier than ever to donate. You can give $10 towards the relief efforts by simply texting HAITI to 90999 and the donation will be charged to your phone bill. Since the campaign began, over one million people have donated $10 – bringing the total to over $10 million. Millions of viewers thought Saturday Night Live’s recent comedy sketch parodying New York Governor David Paterson was hilariously funny. Paterson… not so much. “Paterson in a BLIND Rage Over SNL Skit” screamed the headline in one New York paper. Apparently, the visually impaired governor was not laughing after SNL aired a bit that mocked his blindness.
