Make Your Own Bisquick Mixby Marily | More from this Blogger 23 Jan 2006 03:39 PM Here is a recipe for making your own Bisquick mix. No need to spend money on it at the store, since most of the ingredients you already have on hand. I got the recipe below from my aunt. It includes dry milk, which honestly, I have never added when I've made this mix. Without the dry milk it turns out just fine, as long as you add milk to the recipe instead of water. All-Purpose Mix 4 ½ c sifted flour 2 Tbsp sugar 1 Tbsp + 1 ½ tsp baking powder 1 c shortening ½ tsp salt 2/3 c powdered milk Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Sift together 2-3 times in a large bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender or two knives until the mixture is similar to cornmeal. Add dry milk. Use in recipes that call for Bisquick or all-purpose mix. To get recipes for your All-Purpose Mix, you can buy one small package of Bisquick from the store. Get a coupon here. Cut out the recipes from the box and store them in a container with your mix. You could also buy a package of the store brand, like I did. Even cheaper, go to Betty Crocker's website to get free recipes. My favorite recipe for this mix is from Betty Crocker's Big Red Cookbook. These biscuits are super easy and take just 15 minutes from start to finish. I've only had rave reviews when I've made them. Garlic Cheese Biscuits 2 cups Original Bisquick® mix 2/3 cup milk 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (2 ounces) 2 tablespoons butter or margarine 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder 1. Heat oven to 450ºF. 2. Stir Bisquick mix, milk and cheese until soft dough forms. Drop dough by 9 spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. 3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Stir together butter and garlic powder; brush over warm biscuits. Relevantfrugal tags User Comments Gillian Markson (56) 04 May 2006 03:11 PMWhat a money saver! I love the fact that I can blend in whole wheat or other whole grain flours instead of using just white flour. BTW Those garlic/cheese biscuits rock! I've started using Olive Oil instead of the butter to brush the tops. You still get the same flavor effect, but the biscuits stay moist and the olive oil is great for your heart.
