Starbucks Raised Its Prices

I don’t know if you noticed or not, but Starbucks has raised its coffee prices. This means that the chai latte or Oreo Cookie Mocha Frappuccino is costing you more this month. I confess that I hadn’t noticed, but that is probably because I rarely get a coffee out, unless it is a sort of emergency. For example, I am trapped in the car on a three-hour road trip or a four-hour round of errands, and it is the afternoon, and my only option to avoid a caffeine headache is the Starbucks at the rest stop or the strip mall. … Continue reading

How to Save Money on Milk

Milk prices have certainly been going through the roof lately, haven’t they? I should know because I have three growing kids that need their milk and one aging mom (me) who wants to have healthy bones in her old age. I also use milk a lot in baking. Lately it seems as though we are going through quite a lot of milk, so I am stepping up my money saving strategies, so I can save money on milk and get milk for the lowest prices. Here are the ideas that I use. Dry Milk I know that no one really … Continue reading

99 Cent Milk

There’s a new grocery store chain in my area called Aldi. I was really looking forward to this store moving into town because the prices are supposed to be very competitive and the products offered are supposed to be interesting and family friendly. Those things sound good and sound like things that I need for my family. I do want to get the most groceries and household products for the least amount. If I can make fewer trips to fewer stores to get all my family needs, that’s a bonus too. I was excited about Aldi, so I looked up … Continue reading

How Much More Fun Could a Kid Have?

It used to be that massive pools and room-service ice cream sundaes were all it took to appease children during hotel stays. These days select resorts around the country are going all out to attract young visitors in hopes that their parents will make the adventure a family tradition. It’s truly amazing what some properties are doing to insure kids experience a trip of a lifetime. For example, children are a top priority at the Inn of the Anasazi in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Not only are kids given the opportunity to take a cooking class with the hotel’s executive … Continue reading

Average Retail Milk Prices for September 2008

Milk prices have increase greatly since the first time I started keeping track of the milk pricing report that lists retail milk prices across the country. I remember watching the milk prices creep up a few cents here and there, with the average price somewhere around $2.31 a gallon for whole milk. Today things are a little different. The simple average of milk prices for a gallon of whole milk across the country is $3.82. And many cities find milk prices well over $4. That simple average has held up since the begining of the year, so while some cities … Continue reading

More End of the Summer Hotel Deals

It’s hard to know what’s worse these days the sky-high price of airline tickets and insane luggage fees or the record-breaking cost of gasoline. Either way any help the travel industry is willing to provide families so they can take a last-minute summer vacation is greatly appreciated (by mine anyway). A number of hotels across the country are offering package deals to aid cash strapped families the chance to travel during these tough economic times. Take a look: CHICAGO The Windy City is looking even more inviting than usual with the “Escape! Family Getaway” package being offered by the Renaissance … Continue reading

New Milk Containers Save Money

Saving money on milk has been a mission of mine. With three kids aged seven and younger and a personal need to keep up my calcium, milk is a steady purchase in our home. As mentioned in previous blogs, I do what I can to save money on milk, from baking with powdered milk to finding the best prices of hormone-free milk. But still, I have witnessed the steady climb of milk from $2.30 a gallon to $4.00 a gallon in a very short time. And, there doesn’t seem an end to the price inflation anytime soon. Fortunately, someone has … Continue reading

A New Way to Save Money on Milk

Milk may do a body good (if you believe those old commercials), but it does a wallet bad these days. Organic milk it especially high in price. We just paid $7 for a gallon of Horizon Organic skim milk in the store. Regular store brand milk was priced at $4. Since we go through about 2 and a half gallons of milk here per week, that equals $70 worth of organic milk in a month, or $40 for non organic milk. I remember the days when I could get a whole month’s worth of groceries for less than that. Whew! … Continue reading
