My Frugal Stockpiling Sessionby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 26 Aug 2007 07:40 AM Yesterday was grocery shopping day. Yes, I know that Saturdays can be tough, but as I was mentioning on one of the forums, when I go shopping, I need help. So, my husband comes along, and we make it a family affair. I do all of the price research and coupon cutting before we go, so that we are all set. Once we get there, and it is just a matter of zipping through the store or stores quickly and efficiently. My stockpile in the past few months has been looking pretty anemic. This is because we purged a lot of it in the months before we moved, so we wouldn't have to move all of that food with us. A healthy stockpile allows us to only buy the grocery items when they are at deep discounts, reducing our overall grocery bill by 30 percent or more. (When I am really on my game, I can save up to 60 percent.) Food is pretty expensive where we live, but judge for yourself on how I did. So, here is what we added to our stockpile yesterday. We did buy other groceries, too, but I am just listing the stockpile here.

Eventually I'd like to have several years' worth of food, but for now, a year is manageable. Thanks for all your tips! Mary Ann Romans (26886) 26 Aug 2007 05:28 PMThat is amazing, Julie! I haven't tried stockpiling a year's worth, yet. I will definitely be checking the Deals Blog, though, good grocery deals. Tristi Pinkston (10839) 26 Aug 2007 11:56 PMWow -- your husband goes with you. And is helpful. I'm in awe. :) We are trying to work up to a year's supply too -- it's wonderful how handy that gets. We've had periods of unemployment catch us off guard and having a large stockpile really helped us out. Mary Ann Romans (26886) 27 Aug 2007 06:46 AMYes, Tristi, he is a gem :) It is always great to be able to go to your pantry or freezer and know that you can make a meal.
