Never Buy Another Pair of Panty Hose or Tights Again

In the past, I have written a couple of articles on uses for old and ruined pantyhose. One of the ideas was something a friend told me about and was a terrific way to use a pair of torn pantyhose. I also wrote an entire article on ways to reuse your old pantyhose. I simply cannot waste something that is so expensive.

Now I have a new solution to an age old problem. Pantyhose are very prone to rips, runs and tears. How would you like to do something that might provide a lasting effect and prolong the life of your pantyhose and tights?

When I was researching the second article I mentioned above, I came across a tip that I have used every since I read it. This year, when I pulled out my black pantyhose to wear for Christmas, I was thrilled to not have to purchase a new pair. The pair I have been wearing since 2006 is still in great shape with absolutely no runs, tears or rips. They are like new. Being such an active mom and wearing them frequently to various functions, how was I able to do that?

I put them in the freezer.

I know you are thinking I'm crazy. But it's true. When I purchased the new pair, I filled a zipper freezer bag up with some water and put the stockings inside then popped them in the freezer. A couple of days before I expected to wear them I thawed them and then hung them to dry. They were a little difficult to get into the first time, but it was so worth it.

Once a month I pop them back into the freezer for an overnight stay without the water. That only needs to be done once.

Why does this work? Freezing strengthens the fibers used to make the pantyhose which helps to prevent runs, which eventually of course turn to tears and rips. This is one tip I can tell you works from personal experience. Try it, you'll be glad you did.

I haven't bought a new pair of hose for a year either, but my secret is different. I use hairspray. Every third or fourth wash I put them on and give them a coat of hairspray. Crazy, but it works. I have to thank my Mom for that one. Thanks Ma!

I knew about the hairspray but not about the freezer. The freezer makes so much sense scientifically! Thanks Nicole!

I'm with both of you. Both items work, I just like the freezer because it seems like less work and I don't have to buy anything (I don't use hairspray). I love finding new ways to make things last.
