The Wire Rack

A long time ago I had purchased a cheap wire rack type drawer unit to use for my clothes. As my wife and I have increasingly grown older and purchased some pieces of furniture, she finally gave me the word that I’d have to get rid of it! Luckily for me, I’ve been needing additional space to store things in my semi-forming new office in the basement. Sanely putting things in their place is a relief in itself. Knowing where they are when you need them is even more relieving. So, it came to pass that I would dump my … Continue reading

Frugal Organizational Articles

In honor of our annual fall cleaning and organizing at our home, I thought I’d provide a great set of articles to get you motivated and to think creatively on how to organize your own home. We are not like the traditional family where we do Spring Cleaning because with such a large family, we really have to do seasonal cleaning. This takes part four times a year, and the fall is upon us and that is when we re-evaluate our methods for organization and see what is working or not working for us. Can You Encourage and Promote Organization in a Child?

Some things just can’t be taught—but some things can. I believe there are things we can do as parents to help encourage and promote a sense of organization in our children. It just may take some time and effort! I consider myself to be moderately organized. I am not Martha Stewart by any stretch of self definition, but I have learned a few tips and techniques over the years and I know a little something about how to keep a life that has a tendency to be a bit chaotic—somewhat organized. I think that organization, to a point, can be … Continue reading

Save Time and Money: Frugal Storage Tips For Your Child

I learned a terribly useful trick, from all my research in organization. Make it EASIER to put away items and HARDER to get them out. I promise, it works! Keep this in mind as you are organizing your child’s room. Think about storage placement in regards to ease of putting it away. If it’s easy to put away, a child is more apt to do it. Consider that you need to start from the bottom of the room and work your way up. Children are smaller than us big adults, so storing on a closet shelf that they cannot reach … Continue reading

Organize a Child’s Room Without Buying a Thing (2)

Yesterday, I began a series of articles on organizing rooms on a frugal budget. I have started with a child’s room, since that sometimes seems the most difficult task. With children’s rooms being small to begin with, often shared with a sibling and the center of large amounts of stuff, it’s challenging to get it organized. For us, we have four daughter’s who temporarily share a room! Two sets of bunk beds, toys for four. It’s chaotic to say the very least. So what’s the solution? The Simple “S” Strategy – Sort, Store and Simplify. So where to begin? Easy! … Continue reading
