Reuse: New Uses for Toothpaste
by Nicole Humphrey | More from this Blogger
Do you seem to always wind up with tons of toothpaste tubes. I do. Sometimes we try one and decide we really don't like them, other times we just get a new one and the kids might forget about the old one and by then it just seems silly to use it. So they collect in this basket I have. It didn't take me long to go on a quest to find out how to use the toothpaste in new and innovative ways.
Smells
Remove smells from hands after preparing fish, or anything that else that has a foul smell. Toothpaste will also remove smells from the inside of plastic containers that seem as if they are permeated into the plastic. Baby bottles or cups that had milk sitting in them for a long time are perfect to try this trick on.
Spots & Stains
Sometimes toothpaste will remove a stubborn stain. I have had it take ink pen out of one of my daughter's shirts. It has also removed stubborn spots on shoes. It won't bleach out the fabric and if you turn it into a wet paste, it usually gets deep enough to remove the stain.
Hang Posters
This sounded so far fetched to me, until we tried it. The trick was to put a dab of toothpaste in each corner of a poster before putting it on your wall. The toothpaste would make it stick. So we tried it. Not only did it work, but a few months later when we took the poster down, there was a small mark that was removed with the wipe of a sponge. It was really cool.
Polish Silver
It works with coins, silverware, and other silver items, to polish them and make them look like new. Simple wipe the toothpaste onto the surface with a soft cloth, just as you would with silver polish. When you wipe it away, you'll be surprised at how beautiful it looks. Think candlesticks, jewelry, tea pitchers and other items that are starting to tarnish too.
