Salad Dressing Vase

flowers Do you use salad dressing in your house? Save the container, because you can make it into a great little vase.

Now that the holidays are over, I am really looking forward to the Spring season. Even though my Christmas decorations are still up, I have visions of warm sunlight streaming into the windows and vases and vases of flowers from the garden and woods. I can almost smell the flowers right now.

My favorites are the wild flowers, those volunteer beauties that can be gathered in informal bunches that make their own organic arrangements. I plan on having them all over the house, from the front entry to the downstairs half bathroom. The problem that I will run in to is where to get all of the vases. Sure, the thrift store is a good source, but most of the time the sizes that are available are all wrong. I need something that is just a bit larger than a bud vase, but not so large that it overpowers the flowers and the space for them.

Fortunately, nice vases can be made from glass salad dressing containers. It is a great way to be green, too. I'll just throughly clean the bottle and remove the label. A pretty ribbon tied around the neck of the bottle where the screw threads (where the cap screws on) will disguise the fact that it was anything other than a vase to begin with. You can even fancy up the vase by painting it with a delicate decoration or even applying some etching material to the glass. Another way to decorate it is to tear small bits of colored tissue paper and glue the paper in a mosaic. It will look very nice in a window with the light shining through. Some salad dressing bottles have their own molded patterns that resemble cut crystal.
