Save Money on Haircuts Part 2
by KeeperAtHome | More from this Blogger
Part 1 of this series discussed going to a cosmetology school in order to save money on your family's haircuts. I would like to now suggest something that takes a little more nerve, but saves even more money.
Consider becoming the hair stylist for your family. Now before you shrug it off and say, "There's no way I could cut my family's hair." Think about this: I have no experience with cutting hair. I am not an "artist" by any means and don't even really like to attempt new things that I'm not comfortable with. However, my family couldn't afford to pay for the haircuts my husband needed every six weeks either.
On a whim one day I went onto Ebay and bought a haircutting kit for $9. The kit included the haircutting scissors, the clipper with all of the attachments, the cleaning brush and combs. Since I had no idea what I was doing I decided to educate myself a little.
I took my two-year-old son into the cosmetology school to get his hair cut. I watched the stylist like a hawk and asked her several questions about blending, lengths of attachments, cutting techniques, etc.
After reading the instructions that came with the cutting kit, I decided to cut my husband's hair (He's a pretty easy-going guy, he's even agreed to cut my hair). My first job wasn't excellent, but my husband was supportive. By the third cut I was very comfortable with it and I really liked the way his hair looked. I soon was cutting my son's hair as well. The $9 I spent on the kit has provided both of the men in my house with haircuts for the past six months!
If you are looking for a way to get a little more for your money, take a look at your haircut bill. Consider if going to a cosmetology school or purchasing a haircut kit of your own is right for you.
