One of the great ways to save on spring cleaning is to use what you already have, or at the very least, what you can obtain for little money. Makes sense, or should I say cents? Right? Forget wasting those expensive paper towels and store bought cleaners. Look around your home and see what will work well to clean and sanitize your home. Old brushes Old toothbrushes can be used for getting into crevices, such as those around the sink faucets or in between bathroom tile or around window locks. They are also great for floor corners. Old paintbrushes can be used to dust knick-knacks and houseplants. I have also used them to dust the slats in window blinds. Old socks Use old socks on your hand to dust everything from furniture, to celling fans to window blinds, again. Use old socks for cleaning windows and for cleaning mirrors. There is no need to waste those paper towels. When you are done cleaning, you can toss the socks into the washing machine. You can also use old socks as coverings for tennis balls. Why do you need to cover tennis balls? Put them in the dryer with your down comforter or pillows to help fluff the down. Hair dryer Grab your hairdryer, set it on low, and use it to dust off electronics. The cool air will blow the dust out of the crevices without all of the labor of trying to get in between those ridges yourself. Coffee filters I found myself with a ton of coffee filters when we don't drink coffee. I found that they can be used as gentle cleaning cloths. You can also use them to save your jewelry cleaner. Place the filter over a small bowl or measuring cup. Place your jewelry in the filter and pour the cleaner over it. The filter will trap any dirt, and then you can just re-pour the clean cleaner back into the bottle.
