Saving in Paradise

Forget about famous footwear, if you want to save money on your next trip to paradise, focus on sporting frugal footwear. From now through December 24, 2012, Hawaii’s Aqua Hotels and Resorts is offering a cute and clever “Slip Into Savings” promotion. The offer allows you to save 10% if you are wearing slippers when you check-in. “Slippers are the universal footwear in Hawaii and appropriate for just about any island occasion,” the hotel chain’s senior vice president of sales and marketing shared. “They are a perfect choice for a themed promotion as they help our guests kick off their … Continue reading

Saving on a Student Spring Fling

Next week, the colleges in our area begin spring break. When I was attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I was fortunate enough to partake in four incredible spring breaks, including an especially memorable road trip to California where my then-boyfriend and I skied in Tahoe during the first half of the week and sunned ourselves on the shores of Pebble Beach the next half. Ah, sweet, innocent youth. These days college co-eds have access to a plethora of money-saving spring break options, thanks in large part to the explosion of social media. In the world of Facebook, Twitter and other … Continue reading

Saving on Tropical Escapes

Well, I’m sure reservations to Hawaii will increase exponentially after last night’s Pro Bowl telecast. The football contest is more of an extended commercial for the islands than an actual competition between AFC and NFC players. Not that I am complaining. After all, I didn’t tune in to watch grown men throw around the pigskin. I just wanted to see shots of the sun-kissed shores of my motherland. Last night I got caught up in the moment and blogged about taking a trip to Hawaii and other tropical destinations. However, I neglected to address the cost involved when you jet-off … Continue reading

Frugal Living Week in Review: August 25th Through August 31st

Food and back to school are the two things on my mind this week. I e-mailed my son’s teacher ahead of time to ask about additional supplies that she might need for the classroom. She said that she usually asks parents for antibacterial wipes and tissues, two things that I was able to buy in bulk at our last warehouse shopping trip to save money. Take a look at all of the articles that were posted this past week. August 25th Saving Money at the Shore 3 We just got back from our vacation this weekend, and we are now … Continue reading

Helping Your Baby Manage the Fear of New Things 2

Yesterday I shared a little bit about the how and why babies can be fearful of new things, even those things that you want them to experience. I also mentioned how my own toddler who loves water in every form he has encountered so far (he doesn’t even mind when water gets in his face from a shower or sprinkler) seemed to loathe the beach. Now I’ll tell you more about how we decided to take the supportive approach with him and this fear. That first day at the beach, we arrived to it in the afternoon. It was a … Continue reading

Saving Money at the Shore

Heading down to the shore can be a great family vacation. But like any attractive summer vacation spot, things can be pricey. We are vacationing down at the shore this week, and we are having an amazing time. The weather is wonderful, and the water is warm. Having never been to the beach together as a complete family, we are so incredibly lucky that we have the opportunity to build sand castles and play in the waves. Of course, we are trying to do everything as frugally as possible. Here are some of the things I’ve learned this week. Hopefully, … Continue reading
