Scents For Your Home For Only Cents

We all love walking into a room or home that smells wonderful. It's a tactic that those selling their homes use. But you want to avoid harsh scents that can be overwhelming. These are frugal ways to use scents in your home for only cents.

Dollar Store

Shop at the dollar store. Even discount chains and pharmacy chains have sections of candles and other scent related items. Typically the cost for a scented candle will fall at about $1.00. Some places will have larger candles for 2/$5.00. The candles will last for several burns, and when they aren't burning, they still release a scent into the air.

Make Your Own

One of my favorite ways to scent up the house is to cut a length of pantyhose and fill with your favorite spices. You can either use store bought spices, or utilize potpourri - homemade. Change out different scents for different time of year. For instance in the spring you might enjoy a light flower scent - like roses, lilac, or lavender, in summer you might enjoy an orange, lemon or other citrus scent, Autumn might bring with it pumpkin, berry or vanilla and at Winter/Holiday time you might enjoy a cinnamon, peppermint or pine scent.

Vacuum Cleaner Bags

Put some spices or powder into a vacuum cleaner bag the next time you need to vacuum. Or sprinkle some powder on the carpet, let sit for about 15 minutes and then vacuum it all up. Your home will smell awesome!

Candles

If you prefer a specific scent of candle, you might have multiple candles that are almost burned to the end. If they are in a glass jar, you can fill a pot on the stove top with a couple of inches of water. Place the jar inside the pot, staying nearby at all time. It should only take about 2-5 minutes to melt the wax inside the jar. Remove using a potholder and pour into a new jar. You will most likely need to purchase a new wick from the craft store for a relatively cheap amount. However, you can also pour the candle wax into an ice cube container. Allow it to harden. (spray the ice cube containers with cooking spray first for easy removal). candles, tart burnerFor about $3.00 you can purchase a ceramic wax burner from most discount stores in the candle section. You can then reuse your candles in this way. And you won't even need a wick! Plus the tea lights you need to burn this wax are so cheap - you can get a very large bag of them for around $1.00.

What things do you do to create yummy scents for cents in your home?

I love my tea light wax burner. There are so many scents that can fill your house! Love it! I have about 4 or 5 of them and I normally always have at least one burning! The other thing that I love to do is mix the fragrances up. You can use mutilple scents to create a "special" fragrence.

I showed DH the trick of putting apple cores, orange peels and a cinnamon stick or a clove or two into a pot of boiling water. He loved it so much that he decided to make it his own.

Unfortunately, "his own" involves getting just a LEEETLE carried away with the spices. (We're talking half a cup of cinnamon, some chives, chili powder, and oregano.) It's pretty cute. (I actually AM LOLing as I think about it.)

That's pretty funny, Leggs. All those spices are bound to be interesting. Hey, at least he's creative and actually helping out! Lots of DH's don't!
