Getting Ready for Back to School: Organizing School Supplies

I have to admit that as my children get older, the school supplies get easier…at least in the school system that they attend. They require fewer school supplies in high school, which makes my life easier and my pocketbook more full. However, I have always used a method of getting ready for school that not only saves me money but keeps us well stocked for at least a good portion of the school year. But it all begins in July. I regret not thinking about this last month but school was honestly the last thing on my mind. So perhaps … Continue reading

Back to School Deals- Week of July 26, 2011

You know that the Summer is nearly at its end when the “Back to School” deals start popping up. These deals are just starting to trickle in this week. It won’t be long before parents will be buying loads of school supplies, and children will be heading back into the classroom, for a brand new school year. If you haven’t gotten it yet, I recommend getting the Staples Back to School Savings Pass. It costs $10.00, and is not a membership card or a credit card. Use the Back to School Savings Pass to get 15% off of all school … Continue reading

Save on School Scrapping

My daughter’s school colors are red, white and blue. It doesn’t get more patriotic than that. Yet, I didn’t have the wits about me to stock up on the color combo at post-Independence Day scrapbook supply sales. Now that I am knee-deep trying to put together a scrapbook documenting her year as a first grader, I could kick myself for not buying more red, white and blue scrapbook paper and supplies. I could have saved a ton of money shopping in the days following the 4th of July holiday. It pains me to think of the discounted background paper and … Continue reading

Save money on shoes for school

The summer is almost over, and the beginning of a new school year is just around the corner. Time to start getting ready for school! In addition to pencils, papers, folders, and other assorted school supplies, every student from Kindergarten through high school will need new shoes. Most kids will require one pair of shoes that they only will wear while attending their physical education class, and at least one more pair that they can comfortably wear to school every day. If your children are into fashion, they may demand more than one pair of new shoes for school. Things … Continue reading

Back to School in July

We are in the middle of a heat wave here on the East Coast, with temperatures more than 100 degrees today. The kids are alternating between helping their father do some landscaping on his day off and running through a sprinkler set up on the driveway. It is definitely a scorcher. Meanwhile, I am in the house, preparing for back to school. Yes, that seems strange, and no, we don’t have a year around school here. But now is a good time to get started on back to school, because it helps to save money. Shortly after the Fourth of … Continue reading
