Store Returns: What You Need to Know 2by Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 02 Nov 2009 07:29 PM Don't forget about store returns. At this time of the year buying things that cannot be returned will just waste your money. I have been sharing some tips on how to get organized with your shopping and your returns, as well as some things to do to prevent yourself from getting stuck with items that you don't need and don't want. One question I raised in my previous post was about what to do when you are shopping early for gifts and are worried that the person receiving the gift may not have enough time to return it. Well, here again you need to understand the store return policy. Some stores will extend the amount of time something can be returned if you have a gift receipt. Stores may also allow extended return times on certain items, while others may not be able to be returned at all, no matter what the length of time. As you are choosing your gifts keep this in mind. In some cases, it might be better to go with a gift that can be returned or a gift card in place of something that might be more difficult to return. Now let us talk about that gift receipt. The gift receipt will allow the person to return or exchange the gift for the full price that you paid for it. Having the original receipt or a gift receipt is so important. Otherwise, you may only get back whatever the item sold for at its lowest price (such as during after holiday sales), and you may not even be able to return the item at all. You can ask for a gift receipt, or if you are sure you can all be on the honor system, enclose the original receipt in a sealed envelope to be opened only if the gift needs to be returned. Do you wind up frustrated when you can't find the receipt and need to return something? Ug, I hate this. I have some good tips and advice on getting those purchases and receipts organized in my next post, along with some advice about returns and electronics.
