Take Advantage of "Bag" Sales

Do you know what a bag sale is? No, it isn't a sale on your favorite purses or handbags. it is a way to get a lot for very little. Read on to learn about bag sales and how to get the most you can out of them.

I was introduced to my first bag sale when my eldest son was a toddler (and an only child). The three of us were wandering around the downtown area of a local town, just browsing around, when we wandered into an "upscale" thrift store. The store just happened to be having a bag sale today. Once the manager of the store explained what that was, I was all for it. it was a good way to get some great deals. I wound up with a bunch of great baby and adult clothing that cost me somewhere between 20 and 25 cents a piece.

Nowadays, I try to take advantage of any bag sales that I come across. And I've honed my bag sale technique to the point where items cost me somewhere between 5 and 15 cents a piece. I'm happy to share my experience with you.

During a bag sale, the customer is given a bag (either paper or plastic, depending on the store or the sale) and told they can fill it with merchandise for one set price. The bag can overflow with stuff, as long as the stuff remains in the bag. You can find bag sales at thrift stores, consignment shops, used book stores, library sales and yard sales.

For clothing, the best technique to use is to roll the clothing in a hot dog or sausage shape before placing it in the bag. This method allows you to fit quite a bit in your bag, about twice as much as if you just stuff it all in, and about an extra fourth of stuff over the technique of folding everything. The rolls can be stuffed into gaps on the side of the bag and stick out of the top without falling out.

For books or other items, the best thing to do it to be as neat as possible. If you are in a rush to grab stuff before someone else, go ahead and load you bag willy-nilly, but then find a quiet place to empty it out and neatly stack the items back in. It is guaranteed that you will find extra space in your bag, so go ahead back and add some more items.

I have the EXACT same tip about rolling clothes into a sausage shape on my website at

and I also advise people against stuffing the bag "willy-nilly". Oh...and you said the exact same thing too........

interesting.
