These tips are taken from the book, The Financially Confident Woman: 9 Habits That Build Your Financial Security, by Mary Hunt. Listed below are the 9 habits and a few wise quotes:

A financially confident woman is a giver.

* Find a way to serve others and your life will have meaning.

* There is something about the act of giving that cannot be explained in purely rational terms. I believe with all my heart that the act of giving invites God's supernatural intervention into our lives and our finances. I don't know about you, but the idea of opening my life to that kind of power is too awesome to miss.

* Generous people seldom have emotional and mental problems.

A financially confident woman is a saver.

* Any fool can spend, but it takes someone with real character to save.

* Don't kid yourself. Buying on sale isn't saving; it's spending.

* Don't carry much cash. If you leave your credit card, debit card, ATM card, check book, and most of your cash at home, it will be difficult to make unplanned purchases.

A financially confident woman is an investor.

* No matter your age, start a retirement plan.

* If your employer offers a 401(k) plan, participate at the maximum level allowed. It's not often Uncle Sam offers you such a wonderful gift, so take full advantage of it.

* Investing means to put money to use by purchase or expenditure in something offering profitable returns. Investing is an active and dynamic process. A wise investor always holds the safety of her investment dollars to be of the utmost importance.

A financially confident woman doesn't do unsecured debt.

* When it comes to those preapproved credit card applications, remember: what the big print giveth, the small print taketh away.

* Credit card debt getting you down? Maybe it's time for a little plastic surgery.
