The Garage Sale Free and Cheapie Boxes

It isn't too late to have your garage sale. The weather is still warm enough and people are still out there buying. You might be able to make enough for back to school supplies or even a new desk for your child. And it is great to have some extra cash for the upcoming holiday season.

Today I wanted to talk a little bit about having a free and or a cheapie box at your yard sale. This is a box that contains items you are willing to give away for free or items that you are willing to let go for a low price. The free and cheapie boxes can, in the long run, make your yard sale more profitable. Here is how.

Most people drive by a yard sale and look out of their car windows before they will actually get out to shop. They give your sale a once over before they deem it worthy of actually parking and getting out. Having some attention grabbers such as free items or items priced ridiculously low will get them to the sale. You can also advertise these cheap items with prices or mention that you have a free section when you place your add or write up your signs.

Free and cheapie boxes also lead to more and bigger sales. It is simple. Buying something really cheap can put people in the buying mood. They feel great about getting a good deal. Supermarkets know this secret with their loss leader sales items. Free items may also make someone feel guilty or want to pass on their good fortune by buying more items at your sale.

What should you put in your boxes? Make it a mix of stuff you don't think will sell well, such as some stuffed animals, but add a couple of gems in there too. You can also choose to have your free box be a get an item free with a purchase to inspire more shopping.
