The Money Saving Benefits of Spring Cleaning

cleaning With the exception of Kate from Jon & Kate Plus Eight and the British ladies on "How Clean is Your House," I've never seen anyone who really enjoys cleaning. Maybe I am watching too much reality television and not getting out enough, but tell me, do you like to do heavy cleaning?

If you are like me and need some extra motivation, here it is. There are actually money saving benefits from spring cleaning. I'm serious. Here they are.

The obvious benefit is by doing a good spring cleaning, you are eliminating a lot of allergens that might otherwise go unnoticed, such as mold on the shower curtain, dust in the cracks and crevices, hidden bacteria and even lead particles that get tracked into the house. Being healthy is wonderful in itself, but you'll also save money on medical expenses, from allergy medicine to hospital stays.

When you do a spring clean, you often come across things that you didn't know you had or things that you are just tired of, well, cleaning. Get those things out of the house and sold on Ebay or Craigslist. This is a matter of making money instead of saving it. Extra money = good.

You may also dig up items that with a good cleaning can be usable. This way, you don't have to make new purchases to replace items you either thought were lost or not working. I actually found a new set of silverware that had been given to us and then put away. It was great timing, since as our family has been growing, there weren't enough pieces in the old set.

You may find that having a nice clean home means that you are less likely to want to leave it. And less going out usually means less spending. You also may be adverse to buying new things that will clutter your now clean home.

I really find cleaning a good antidote to discoontentment in many things in my life. Cleaning up and rearranging/organizing what I already have can really make me feel like I've gained something new and fresh and that contentment squelches my desire to go consume and purchase new things.
