Three Ways To Save Some Money In The Kitchen

Food is one of our most expensive resources, and we have to have it to survive. It is certainly not a want, but definitely a need. So how do you save more money after using coupons, sales and other discounts? Easy, follow these tips.

Eggs - This has got to be one of my favorite things I have learned to do in the kitchen. After starting to cook one night, I realized I was out of eggs. While I am sure I could have gone and knocked on my friends door to see if she had one I could borrow, I called a different friend and she gave me this tip. I have done it ever since. If you need an egg and don't have one, combine two tablespoons of water, two tablespoons of flour and ½ teaspoon of baking powder and mix well. The substance acts the same way that an egg does and in cooking and baking you probably won't notice any difference at all. Obviously it does not work the same way a fried egg would.

Leftovers Soup - I have tried this several times and it really does work. When dinner is complete and you end up with leftovers, toss them into a freezer bag. Even if its a scoop of corn or a handful of carrot slices or even just a small portion of steak or chicken that a child didn't want. When the bag is completely full of leftovers from a variety of meals, prepare an easy stock and toss in all of the stuff you saved. This makes a great soup/stew and actually tastes amazingly better than store bought soups and stews. Plus, its a great way to use leftovers rather than tossing them out.

Coffee - I have a whole resource of coffee tips because I drink about a pot a day. The prices for those delicious gourmet coffee beans is astronomical. Why not try to be economical and make your own. Simply drop a half of a piece of a cinnamon stick in your coffee grounds before brewing. You can also add vanilla, almond or any other extract to your coffee once its brewed. You can make delicious gourmet coffee at home. A quick cappuccino can be made with that last mug full of coffee too. This tip came from a friend of mine that owns a shop call Cappuccino's. Take the last cup of coffee, add about ¼ cup of cocoa (to taste) and about 2 cups of warmed milk. Heat and then sweeten with a little sugar and you have a couple more cups of yummy cappuccino. Way cheaper than the stores.
