Tips for Saving Money at the Circusby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 18 May 2009 04:12 AM
Tickets Let's talk about ways to lessen the price of tickets. You can first pick a local or lesser known circus. These troops may not have all of the pyrotechnics and elaborate props, but they usually try hard to offer a lot of great entertainment at a much smaller price. You usually get a much more intimate setting, and often the performers will interact with you. To get that interaction in a "celebrity" circus, you'll need to pay anywhere from $95 to $120 per ticket. Find out early when the circus is coming to your town and opt to go on opening night. Ringling Bros and Barnum and Baily Circus usually heavily discounts opening night tickets to help bring in the crowd and create a successful night. You can usually get great seats for just $11. Find out if you really need to pay for young children. Some shows mandate than anyone who has reached his or her second birthday have a ticket. Other shows allow children who will sit in a lap, instead of a seat, to enter for free. I have heard of anyone checking the ID of little kids, so although we did purchase a ticket for our two-year-old, I have seen families that don't even for older children, so it is your call. Many times, you will find that there are good seats that haven't been claimed. At intermission, ask the usher in your section if you would be able to move up into the better yet empty seats. They usually don't mind, but will warn you that you need to move if the ticket holders do show up. The reality is that if they aren't there by intermission, they probably aren't coming. Don't try to change seats in the middle of the show. This will only annoy everyone. Check back later, when I talk about how to get around those inflated snacks and souvenirs.
