cheap halloween decorationsUse your hands, it's cheaper! In other words, creating your own decorations for Halloween is much more cost effective than purchasing store bought items. Not to mention it gives you freedom and creativity to make the items the way you want them.

Halloween decorations can be fun to make and low cost and the memories associated with the time you spent creating them will return year after year, as you put these decorations out!

Get the kids involved and make a day of crafting! It's fun and keeps bored children occupied.

Here are a couple of ideas:

Large hanging ghosts that will sway in the breeze outside can be made easily by draping a white sheet, tablecloth or pillowcase over a balloon and tying below the head. You cut the sheets up at the bottom for a layered effect. Looks great and they are super easy to make.

You can also create small hanging ghosts for indoors. Use white paper napkins, tissue paper or kitchen paper tied over any small ball, barely inflated balloon or crumpled piece of paper or stuffed sock secured with string or thread and a face drawn on with markers.

Another cute but frugal idea is for a centerpiece.

It's easy really. An inexpensive centerpiece can be made by using a dollar store black plant cauldron with a large bowl inside of it. Or you can just use a large bowl covered with black tissue paper and filled with cola plus a few grapes, cubes of pineapple or pieces of apple floating around for a gruesome looking witches brew.

If you're like me and like to avoid anything gruesome and gross at this time of the year, you can create a nice centerpiece by taking the bowl or cauldron and filling it with a bouquet of autumn colored flowers, a mum or just leaves from outside.

Working with your hands is a creative outlet and creating Halloween decorations from things you already have is a frugal outlet!
