Ways To Save Money In The Kitchenby Nicole Humphrey | More from this Blogger 25 Jan 2007 01:39 PM
Recipes Try out new recipes. Shop around online or with family and friends and try out different recipes several nights a week, to see what your family enjoys and where you can save the most money. Try out recipes that might encourage freezer cooking or meal sharing for a co-op. Try a different type each night of the week. Dinners For cheaper eating, I recommend casseroles, where you can make several at one time and freeze the rest. Substitute ground turkey for ground beef where you can. Typically ground turkey is cheaper and it's actually healthier. It also has more flavor. I also recommend crock pot cooking inexpensive and cheaper cuts of meat to soften the meat but not spend a lot of money on the high priced meats. Instead of purchasing cuts of chicken for several dollars a pound, purchase whole chickens on sale. Then pop them into the crock pot and when done, the meat will literally fall off, making it easy to use for whatever you might want. Chicken salad, Casseroles, Salads, Soups, etc. Meat On Sale Purchase meat on sale. Major holidays usually find different cuts of meat on sale. For instance at Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor day you will find ground beef and hot dogs at their cheapest. At Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter you will find ham and turkey on sale. Be sure and buy as much as you can keep in your freezer to cut down on costs. Saving money isn't that hard if you take the time to try. I am a casserole fanatic myself and they certainly do save a bunch of money! Nicole Humphrey (15757) 26 Jan 2007 05:18 AMTraci me too. I love casseroles. It's the easiest way to get dinner on the table fast. Plus clean up is certainly easier than having different pots for each thing. Lately, I've gotten into creating casseroles to freeze so I can just pop them in the oven at night when I'm ready. Yummy! Oh and you're welcome for the article. I'm really glad it helped! :) Community Tags Food, groceries, kitchen, save money, sales Discuss this article
