Ways to Save on Holiday Cards

Does your budget include Christmas cards for this year? If not and you still want to send them, consider the following options. They will help you save money and still follow this cherished tradition.

First take a look at what cards you may already have before you purchase any new ones. Maybe they don't all match, or maybe you have a few less popular cards, but if you have them, you can use them. This will save you on the cost of having to buy new cards this year. I know that I frequently find extra cards packed in with my Christmas decorations.

What if you find cards that don't have any envelopes? You can substitute other envelopes if you have them, or simply make your own. You can print out templates from the Internet that tells you how to make different sized envelopes. Use an old calendar or magazine pages to make the envelopes more colorful.

Instead of sending out traditional Christmas cards, why not send out Christmas postcards? You'll save money on the postage right away. There are Christmas post cards out there that you can purchase, or simply buy a bunch of plain ones from the post office and then decorate them yourself. This could be a fun holiday tradition for the whole family.

If you need to buy Christmas cards, there are a couple of options that will save you money. Purchase your cards in December. You will get the best discounts on cards that month (with the exception of after the holidays). Have your list ready and address and stamp them within a couple of days, and you should still make the mailing deadlines.

Consider making a phone call instead of sending a Christmas card. I bet distant relatives would love to hear your voice. For my family this would work, since we have phone service through the Internet/cable company and don't get charged extra for long distance calls.
